From Kiev to Tbilisi
In order to support the national tourism industry, Georgian businessman Mamuka Khazaradze is ready to pay for ten charter flights from Kiev to Tbilisi. This decision is explained by the fact that in the current summer season the flow of tourists from Russia to Georgia will fall significantly - this is due to the decision of the Russian authorities to suspend flights to Georgia from July 8 for an indefinite period. This is reported by News-Georgia.
But tour operators have not yet received any specific offers. About this, in particular, mastertura.com.ua told in Join UP! and Travel Professional Group, whose volumes in this area are large enough. But is it interesting for tour operators in principle? TPG Deputy Director General Elena Boiko noted that ten flights for the summer season are too few. “Why put such a short charter chain? It is inappropriate, ”she believes. Another commentator believes that the statement of Mr. Hazaradze is more like a PR move. Moreover, it’s not a fact that these flights will be in demand: first, Tbilisi doesn’t suit everyone, it would be more interesting for many tourists to fly to Batumi. Secondly, there is enough regular transportation - take at least Yanair and SkyUp flights. Finally, Georgia is traditionally not considered a charter destination: the lack of a language barrier, the ability to book a hotel online and the emergence of low-cost transportation removes the need to select a ready-made tour package, which may also be more expensive. “I think that now such a program is more necessary for Georgia than for Ukraine. In any case, it is more logical to wait for the official position of the Georgian authorities and specific proposals, then they will already have to make a decision, ”the interlocutor believes.
Director of the Center for Tourism Development of Ukraine Volodymyr Tsaruk also believes that it is not the business representatives, but the state that should come up with such initiatives. “Hotels in Georgia are much cheaper than in Bulgaria, not to mention Turkey and European countries. Therefore, some of the Ukrainian tourists may well choose Georgia as an alternative, ”he believes. In his opinion, the Georgian authorities could well use the current situation and offer other markets financing programs for charter flights in order to attract additional flows to the country. “By the same way, by the way, Turkey and Egypt went in due time, and also after they lost the Russian market,” the source added.
