The country is going to achieve the goal of 100 million tourists by 2020.

According to the UN, in 2017 France welcomed 89 million visitors, which is seven million more than the nearest rival - Spain, which moved the United States from second place.

The number of visitors to France has increased markedly since 2016, when tourism suffered from terrorist attacks. Thus, the country is going to achieve an ambitious goal - 100 million tourists by 2020, reports The Connection.

According to the UN, world tourism has jumped by 7% in 2017. This trend has affected the sunsets of Thailand, the ski resorts of Turkey, and the beaches of Bulgaria. And France is much ahead of Spain's second largest, which has overtaken the US as the world's second most popular place, despite its own terrorist attacks and demonstrations concerning independence in Catalonia.

The Spaniards took 82.3 million tourists in 2017. Although in 2016, 75.6 million foreigners visited America - 300,000 more than in that period in Spain. Data on the US for 2017 is not yet, but officials of the World Tourism Organization expect that the figure will be at the level of 2016.

The American Tourist Association earlier said that during the first six months of 2017, the country was visited by 6% fewer vacationers compared to the previous year.
