Egypt wants to restore flights
Egyptian authorities are making every effort to restore direct flights between the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh and Russia. This statement was made by the Minister of Tourism of Egypt, Rania Al-Mashat. This is reported by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia.
According to the official, the Egyptian authorities do not doubt the resumption of direct flights from Russia to the country's largest resort of the Red Sea, Sharm el-Sheikh. At the moment, specific efforts are being made to restore air traffic. In particular, Egypt has enhanced information exchange with Russia on airport security and the transmission of intelligence data important to such security.
However, the specific dates for the appearance of the first Russian charters in Sharm el-Sheikh are not discussed yet. As the head of the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt, the launch of flights depends entirely on the agreement of the authorities of the two countries. It will happen only after the Sharm el-Sheikh airport with the inspection is visited by another special commission from Russia. However, at present there are no clear plans and schedules for inspections of Egyptian airways.
The Russians, despite the lack of direct flights to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, continue to increase the flow of tourists to the resorts of the Red Sea. According to the Egyptian company Nefer Tours, from January to September 2018, more than 36,000 Russian arrivals were recorded at Sharm el-Sheikh airport. This is almost two times more than in the same period a year earlier. Almost the same number of independent tourists from Russia was noted in another Egyptian resort - Hurghada.
According to Arabian Business, in the first nine months of this year, the number of foreign tourists in Egypt increased by 40% compared with last year's figures.
