Turkey named the main competitor
Spain is Turkey's main competitor in the fight for foreign tourists. This statement was made by the Head of the Federation of Hoteliers of Turkey Osman Ayryk. This writes Antalya Ekspres.
During the 8th International Congress on Tourism, Turkish business representatives summed up the results of 2018 and gave a forecast for the next year. The number of foreign visitors in the country over the past 11 months increased by 29% compared with last year. The number of overnight stays increased by 23%, and tourism revenues by 30%. Antalya in 2018 took about 13.5 million people. In total, the Turkish authorities are counting on an annual tourist flow of 40 million foreign visitors.
The head of the Federation of Hoteliers of Turkey (TUROFED), Osman Ayryk, declared during the congress that the country had managed to overcome difficult times in the tourist sector. According to him, Turkey has only one competitor on the Mediterranean coast - Spain. In recent years, the number of tourists in the Spanish resorts has reached 80 million. Turks hope to reach such a figure in the future, O. Ayryk added. The head of TUROFED compared countries with communicating vessels: when the number of tourists in Spain grows, in Turkey it decreases. This year, when there were more tourists in Turkey, in Spain their number, on the contrary, decreased. Nevertheless, the difference between the number of holidaymakers in the two countries is quite significant - about 40 million people. O. Ayryk insists that it is necessary to study the experience of Spain and find out how she manages to achieve such success.
To increase the tourist flow of Turkey can help the development of "smart tourism". It is based on the use of digital technologies, increasing the variety of year-round tourism products, as well as continuing the program of subsidizing airline expenses that help ensure the loading of beach hotels during low season, added TUROFED head.
