This year, Thai officials intend to introduce compulsory insurance for tourists. But for now, these rules are at the stage of a pilot project, and they will first begin to operate in the province of Nakhon Nayok. The fact is that foreigners very often travel to this region for the sake of extreme sports (rafting, climbing, cycling and others), reports the local edition of the Bangkok Post. Such extremals are often injured, so officials are convinced that this problem needs to be addressed.

Tourists will take out insurance at passport control (in immigration offices) at the airport. The insurance premium is supposedly 20 baht (more than 17 UAH), and the money will be sent to the Thailand Tourism Promotion Fund. In case of accident insurance, victims will be paid 500 thousand baht (about 430 thousand UAH), and in case of death - 1 million baht (860 thousand UAH). Promise to pay money for a month.

“Compulsory insurance for foreigners Thai authorities decided to introduce after a series of accidents with tourists, including because of last year’s crash of the Phoenix pleasure boat in Phuket, when 47 Chinese were killed. Insurance will help to increase the confidence of tourists to Thailand, ”the newspaper writes. And the Chinese in Thailand are valued, because last year they were in the country of 10 million (more than 26% of all arrivals).
